League One

In US-sports termsThe third tier — think a strong minor league. Same up-and-down rules as every level above it, all the way to the top.
What it is
Third tier, 24 clubs. Same machine: top 2 up, playoff for the third promotion spot, bottom 4 down.
How you get in
Between the Championship above and League Two below.
What it feeds
Promotion to the Championship; relegation to League Two. All 24 clubs enter both domestic cups.
Even famous clubs do time down here — Sunderland spent four seasons in League One with 30,000 fans still showing up every week (there's a Netflix documentary about it). Below League Two, the pyramid continues into the semi-pro National League — technically all the way down to your local pub team.
